Virginia Beach Jaguar dealer, Checkered Flag Jaguar, has discovered that Jaguar is launching an armored version of its stunning new XJ luxury sports saloon at the 2010 Moscow International Motor Show.

The new XJ Sentinel offers the ultimate in discreet protection, being virtually indistinguishable from the standard XJ model, yet featuring a state-of-the-art armoring package which provides occupants with up to B7 levels of ballistic protection.

Benefiting from Jaguar Land Rover’s extensive experience in the armored vehicle market, the XJ Sentinel is supplied with a full three-year 50,000 mile factory warranty, along with comprehensive after-sales support from specialized technicians.

Jaguar engineers focused on ensuring that the XJ Sentinel retained the real-world usability of the standard car. Based on the long wheelbase XJ, the armored vehicle maintains that model’s luxurious interior package, its compelling blend of comfort and agility, and convenient servicing using regular dealer equipment.

The Jaguar XJ’s aerospace-inspired lightweight aluminum body structure also makes it possible to offer a very generous 500kg payload for passengers and luggage without compromising vehicle performance.

Designed for executives and heads of state, the car features specialized high strength steels (with Kevlar backing), an armored inner cell, and “substantial under floor grenade protection.” Thanks to all these additions, the Sentinel has a ballistic protection rating of B7. If car bombs are more up your alley, you’ll be happy to know the car can withstand a “close proximity” blast from 15kg (33 lbs) of TNT.

As you’d expect, the armoring adds weight – a lot of it. The Sentinel tips the scales at 3,300kg (7,275 lbs) which is 1,426kg (3,144 lbs) more than the standard XJL. Performance, of course, suffers as the run from 0-100 km/h takes 9.7 seconds and the top speed is limited to 195 km/h (121 mph). This is despite the fact that power is provided by a 5.0-liter V8 engine with 385 hp (287 kW / 390 PS) and 515 Nm (380 lb-ft) of torque.
